ALEXANDRE, GEORGE E., SR.,of Clifton Assisted Living passed away Thursday May 3, 2007 at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, MA. He was the beloved husband of Genevieve S. (Szczepanek) Alexandre. They were married 55 years.
Born in Providence he was a son of the late Joseph and Eva (Fontaine) Alexandre. He lived in Somerset for the past year and was formerly of Seekonk.
Before retiring he served as a Firefighter for the city of Providence for 23 years retiring in 1969. He later served as a Safety Representative for the American Universal Insurance Co. He was a WWII Navy veteran surviving the invasion of North Africa on November 8, 1942. He also survived 2 Torpedo attacks and the sinking of the Tasker H. Bliss.
He was a Bird enthusiast. His hobbies included gardening and woodworking. He was a member of the National Woodcarving Association and a startup member of the Yankee Woodcarving Club of South Attleboro. He assisted Seniors in Barrington in learning the art of Woodcarving.
Besides his wife he leaves his loving children Denise R. Alexandre of Seekonk, George E. Alexandre, Jr. of Barrington and Mark S. Alexandre of East Providence. He also leaves one sister Beatrice Hastings of Maryland, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
