Jim C. Brasher passed peacefully with his wife, Connie, by his side on April 12, 2012 in Atlanta, GA, where Connie still resides.

Arrangements are being made by Rose Neath Funeral Home, 705 South Spruce, Vivian, LA, 318-375-3011. Visitation is Saturday, April 14 from 6PM-8PM. The funeral service will be Sunday, April 15, 3PM, at Pine Street Church of Christ, 600 N. Pine Street, Vivian, LA, 71082 with burial immediately following at the Vivian Cemetery.

Son of Henry R. Brasher and Maimee "Good Mama" Robertson Brasher of Vivian, LA, he married Connie Donaldson Brasher of Paduchah, KY on April 13, 1948.

A voracious reader and lifelong student of the Bible, Jim earned undergraduate degrees from Freed Hardeman University in Henderson, TN and Abilene Christian University in Abilene, TX, as well as a Masters Degree in Divinity from The Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, KY.

He spent his life serving the Lord and others as a Gospel preacher in Harrisburg, IL (1947-1949), Louisville, KY (1950-1958), Sulphur, LA (1958-1989), and back to Vivian, LA (1990-2004).

Jim loved God first and foremost. His wife, Connie, was his sweetheart for 64 years. Jim was a kind hearted gentleman and loved all people. Friendly and outgoing, he enjoyed the dogs he met on his daily walks. He led many to Christ through his humble spirit and knowledge of the Bible. Jim enjoyed Mexican food and Tabasco Sauce, and was an avid LSU Tiger fan! Jim loved his hometown, Vivian, LA, and the people of Louisiana. He was selected "Man of the Year" in 1995 in Vivian, and was recognized in 1993 for his 31 years of service to the Sulphur area. Jim was ever the optimist and encouraged those with whom he came in contact. He mentored young people while directing summer camps for 40 years. Jim enjoyed fishing at Black Bayou in Vivian and the coastal waters near Sulphur. Jim was a visionary in his work with churches and with people, and was also a gifted teacher. He learned to have fun early in life and never forgot this important trait. He was an accomplished musician, particularly with the guitar.

Jim is survived by his wife, Connie Donaldson Brasher, children Jim C. (Betty) Brasher, Jr of Rock Springs, GA, Michael Brasher, Mark (Pam Bohannon) Brasher, and April Brasher (George) Hawthorne, all of Atlanta, GA, as well as grandchildren Jon Mark Brasher, Seth Werner, Cameron Brasher, and Allie Brasher, also of Atlanta.

Jim will be sorely missed by family and friends. We look forward to seeing Jim again in our heavenly home where there will be no more sadness or sorrow. Jim loved the Lord and is now reaping his reward written about by Paul in II Timothy 4:7-8 where he says, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day - and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
