Christopher C. Boyer, pioneer minister of Edgar county and retired farmer
died at 11:30 o'clock Thursday night at his home at Brocton of Bright's
disease of the kidneys, age 72 years. The funeral was conducted from the
Pleasant Hill Christian church near Kansas at 11 o'clock Saturday morning
and burial was made in the adjoining cemetery.
The deceased, a son of Abraham and Harriet Boyer, was born near Kansas,
October 18, 1837. Until the failing health prevented, he was active as a
minister of the Christian church, devoting what time he could spare from
his agricultural pursuits.
Mr. Boyer was married when he was 21 years old to Miss Louisa Kibler of
Kansas township, who survives him, together with five daughters and three
sons, as follows: Mrs. Allie Merica, Francisville, Ind.; Mrs. Minnie
Bandy, Fulton, Mo., Mrs. Dora Whinnery, Muncie, Ind; Mrs. Ollie Rardin,
Paris; Thomas Boyer, Oakland, Cal; Jeptha Boyer, Sacramento, Cal., and
Edward. The deceased leaves two brothers, John Fletcher Boyer of Kansas
and Thomas Letterson Boyer of Martinsville.
Mr. Boyer and family resided in Kansas township about thirteen years, at
the end of which time they moved to a farm, located half a mile east of
Brocton. About five years ago the deceased retired from active life and
moved to the home in Brocton where he died. He was one time justice of
the peace of Embarrass township.
Mr. Boyer was in bad health for several years and bedfast about five
weeks. He was a member of the Christian church fifty-one years and a
Christian gentleman esteemed by all who knew him.
