MONMOUTH - Lyle D. Sedwick, 76, Monmouth, and formerly of Alexis, died at 10:31 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 28, 2006) at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born Aug. 29, 1930, in Galesburg, the son of Dan M. and Opal Hiles Sedwick.
He married on June 7, 1952. His wife survives.
Also surviving are his (identical twin) daughters, a sister, and five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Howard Hallberg.
He was reared and educated in Galesburg, graduating from Galesburg High School in 1948. He attended Browns Business College in Galesburg.
He served with the Air Force from 1951 to 1955, attaining the rank of staff sergeant while instructing airplane mechanics.
He worked for Rowe Manufacturing in Galesburg before moving to Butler Manufacturing where he worked for 19 years before retiring in 1994. He also worked for J.C. Penney in Galesburg for 19 years.
He and his wife owned and operated Dairy Barn Ice Cream Shop in Alexis for 14 years before closing in 1994.
He served for several years as an election judge in Alexis. He was a member of the Sons of the Confederacy.
He was a member of Gerlaw Christian Church and James Harvey Scott American Legion Post 189 in Alexis. He served as treasurer of his church and Bridger Cemetery.
He enjoyed working on genealogy, gardening and new cars.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis, with the Rev. Paul Lydic officiating. Friends may call between 9 and 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Burial with military honors will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg.
Memorials may be made to Gerlaw Christian Church.
