Alson and his family endured many hardships that don't show up in the U.S. Census. They left Randolph Co. NC in 1840 and travelled to Randolph Co. IN to join their Dennis relatives who were all a part of the Quaker migration to Indiana. In 1856 Alson, after having startied his own family, migrated again with his father to Anderson County, Kansas Territory.
After seeing the violence in pre-war Kansas and his brothers die of the "fever" in 1862 returned to Indiana with his wife and family to live near the larger body of the Dennis family. He was then drafted into the war, returned from there, bought a farm and lost it in 1871, then lost his wife in 1874.
