Lester Edward Doubleday, 83, of Lee Lake, died August 10,2007 at Good Samaritan Hospice Residence.
He was born May 19,1924, the son of Lester and Mable (Baurs) Doubleday in Battle Creek. He attended school in St. Charles, Mi. until entering the service in 1943. Lester served inthe U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. When he returned from the service he graduated from Athens High School.
Lester becam a patrolman for the Battle Creek Police Department in 1947 and served with that department until 1954. He then became a Michigan State Ploice Trooper and served in Flint, Bridgeport,and East Lansing. He was the supervisor for firearms training and the ordinance department whrn he retired as a sergrant in 1980. Lester was also a college instructor at Kalamazoo Valley Community College and Kellogg Community College teaching Ploice Firearms classes and an adjuct professor at Lasing Community College. He also provided firearms training to the Calhoun County Sheriff Department. He was a longtime member of the MSP Pistol Team competing in many tournaments.
Professionally, Lester was amember of the Central Michigan Law Enforcement Assoc., Michigan State Ploice Command Officers Assoc. and a charter member of the Mi. State Ploice Troopers Assoc. He was also a member of the American Lefion,V.F>W., a 32nd degree Mason and a life member of the National Rifle Assoc. In retirement he served many times as an sepert witness.
Lester married Margaret Gibbons on Nov. 9,1947; she surviver. Also surving are daughter Mary M.(Richard) Bissell of Mason; sons Lester W. Doubleday of Rogersville, Tn.Terry L. Doubleday of the home,two grandchildren 2 sisters. He was precedd in death by his brother Jack Doublday.
Friendsmay call from 2 nti 4 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m.Monday at the Shaw Funeral Home. Service will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.Pastor Kelly Hadlich, Evangelical Friends Church officiating. Interment, West Leroy Congregational Cemetery.
