Ray E. Allen, 80, Longtime Resident of Community, Dies
Ray E. Allen, 80, a resident of the Newton area for the past 65 years, died Sunday afternoon at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services for Mr. Allen a charter member of the Newton First Baptist Church will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Toland Funeral Home.
The Rev. Robert Willhoite, minister of the church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call after 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Toland Funeral Home.
Survivors are two sons, Leonard of Newton and Lester of Colfax; a daughter, Mrs. Allan (Hazel) McAllister of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Clara in Dec. 1958; a daughter; and a son.
He was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Newton and a charter member of the Amboy Grange.
Mr. Allen was a retired farmer.
The son of Charles L. and Josephine Payton Allen, he was born Aug. 1, 1886, at Winfield, Kan.
He was married to Clara Kracht March 7, 1912, at Ottumwa.
