Wells Smith Ely, 82, of 3307 Mansfield Road died at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday at Physicians and Surgeons Hospital after a brief illness.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Marshall Street Chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home with the Rev. Joseph Browning, pastor of St. John Berchmans Co-Cathedral, officiating. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery.
A Michigan native, Mr. Ely had lived in Shreveport since 1920. He was a retired foreman for Arkansas Louisiana Gas Co., a Catholic and a veteran of World War I.
Mr. Ely began working with the Caddo Chapter of the American Red Cross in 1940 and served on its board of directors since 1948. He participated in numerous Red Cross Activities.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Hartl Ely of Shreveport, and one brother, Harlo O. Ely of Lansing, Mich.
