Mary Hummel married Mathias Simonis May 23, 1876 in Stevens Point, Portage County, Wisconsin.

Obituary, Mary Hummel Simonis Stevens Point Daily Journal, 22 March 1929 Found: Stevens Point WI Public Library on Microfilm.

Mrs. Mary Hummel Simonis, wife of Matt Simonis and one of the oldest residents of the town of Alban, died at 11:15 o'clock Thursday night at the family home, one and one quarter miles north of Rosholt village. She had been an invalid much of the time since she suffered a stroke of paralysis about four years ago. The deceased was a native of the town of Sharon, born there April 24, 1860, and was married to Matthias Simonis on May 23, 1876. Except for a couple of years that they spent in Oregon, Mr. and Mrs. Simonis had been continuous residents of northeast Portage county.

Ten of here children were born to them and they also became the foster parents of one child, now Mrs. Casper Balthizor of Bear Creek, Outagamie county. The eight sons and daughters now living are Nicholas, Martin, David, Lawrence, Alois, and Reuben Simonis, Mrs. Tom Windorf and Mrs. Joseph Trebe, all residents of the Rosholt neighborhood. There is also one sister, Mrs. Peter Koltz of Arnott, and a brother, Matt Matthews of Junction City. Other near relatives include 48 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Mrs. Simonis was a member of the Sacred Heart society of St. Adalbert's congregation. She took a leading part in the social and civil affairs of her community and was ever ready to assist her neighbors and friends when help was needed. The funeral will be held from St. Adalbert's church at 9 o'clock Monday morning, with interment in the parish cemetery.

Mary Hummel's parents are Ambrose N. Hummel, who is buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in Green Bay, Brown Co., WI, and Margaret (Margit) Mersch, who is buried in an unmarked grave at St. Martin's cemetery in Sharon Twp., Portage Co., WI. Margaret's name at the time of her death was Margaret Matthews. There are 2d marriages for both of Mary Hummel's parents.
