Henry Jones, mill Employe,
Struck While At Home
Thursday Afternoon.
DALLAS, Aug. 6-Henry Jones,
27, night employee for the past
eight months at the Monarch Mill
here, was killed instantly Thursday
about 5 o'clock when
he was struck by a bolt of Lighting
at his home near the mill.
Jones was standing in a draft
from an open window, It was reported
and near an iron bed when hit.
Being under and electric lightglobe,
The Lighting passed from
his body into it.
Funeral services were hled here
Friday afternoon. Deceased
is survived by a wife and
four small children, The youngest
of whom is four weeks old,
five sisters also survived.

Out Houses, Barns And One
Mill Damaged By Water
And Wind - Man Killed
In Dallas No Damage In
City Reported.
A stormtaking on the aspects
of a small cyclone, hit the south-
ern portion of Gaston county be-
tween four and five o'clock Thurs-
day afternoon, and did more or
less serious damage to barns, other
out houses, cotton mills, elec-
tric and telephone lines, and crops
in general.
The Hanover Thread Mills on the
South Gastonia highway lot part
of its roof in the storm, water
pouring in on the machinery and
yarn during the rain. A box car,
sidetracked there, was blown on
the main line and blocked the C.
& N. W. passenger train for a few minutes.
Abarn on the farm of Mr. Harry
Dixon was blown over, It was reported,
Other out houses were
also lifted from the ground. The
corn crop suffered considerable
damage. Radio apparates was de-
molished in some sections. Phone
service to South Gastonia was
impaired, as well as electric light-
ing. A main water pipe line there
was broken when a huge tree was
uprooted, the roots breaking the
line. it was stated.
One man was killed in Dallas
while he was at home, it being
reported that lightning struck near
there. The sections of Olney and
Robinsonville communited were
also visited by the heavy end of
the storm.
The rainfall was more than two
inches in depth, it was reported.
The Dallas section was also visted
by a heavy rain. Pisqah reported
the hardest rain in years.

My great Uncle Henry, my grandmother, Nora Mae Jones Ditmore's baby brother. His death adversly affected her as she would go into a nervous state whenever a thunder storm would come and shecwould hold her head in her hands...afraid until it passed. I'm gl...(Read more)
