Ivan Earl Beckwith

GLOUCESTER — Ivan Earl Beckwith, 85, died Sept. 19, 2007, at the home of his son in Sandston, Va.
Mr. Beckwith was a longtime member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church where he had served as Treasurer, Sunday School teacher and sang in the church choir. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII as a navigator on a B17. During one of the missions his plane was shot down, he was captured and spent 13 months in a German POW camp. After the war, he attended the University of Iowa and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He spent his entire career as an aeronautical engineer at NASA Langley and retired in 1989.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Irene R. Beckwith, and daughter, Dounia Sue Beckwith.
He is survived by one daughter, Dalora Beckwith; four sons, David Beckwith and wife, Janet, Douglas Beckwith and wife, Leslie, Darel Beckwith and wife, Barbara, and Scott Beckwith; one sister, Dorothy Lecour; seven grandchildren, Matthew Beckwith and wife, Tasha, Jason Beckwith, Christine Osborn, Amanda Beckwith, Miriam Beckwith, Daylene Cox and Michael Jones; six great-grandchildren, Stephano and Christian Osborn, Noel Beckwith, Shannon Kacena and William and David Cox; one great-great-grandchild, Kristina Borgstahl.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Thad Decker. Interment will follow in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
