Lora Lee (Read) Bauer, 85, of Point Marion, Pa., died Thursday, September 1, 2011, in the Point Manor Personal Care Home, Point Marion, where she had resided for the past six years. Born in York, Nebraska on November 12, 1925, she was the youngest of seven children born to Vern Ralph and Lora Arlene (Inbody) Read.
In 1929 she moved to Sidney, Nebraska, and graduated in 1943 from the Lorenzo, Nebraska High School. She was employed as a telephone operator for 33 years for Northwestern Bell. In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing and picnicking, and in later years spent much of her time putting together beautiful jigsaw puzzles. In 2005 she moved to Pennsylvania to be close to her son and daughter-in-law.
She was predeceased by her husband Roy, who she married on Aug. 24, 1944. To this union were born two children, Ken E. Bauer of Dilliner, Pa., and Yvonne "Bonnie" Sweet, now deceased. Also deceased are three sisters and two brothers.
In addition to her son, she is survived by his wife, Sondra; two grandsons and four great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Eddy of Grand Junction, Colorado; and in-laws Gladys Adams, Florene Elias, Fernell Read, Vic Bauer and Dorothy Bauer.
The family will receive friends in the Point Manor Personal Care Home, on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 from 10 -11 a.m. A Memorial Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Scott Teets officiating. Additional services and burial will be in Sidney, Nebraska. Arrangements are in the care of the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion.
