Birth: 1821
Tennessee, USA
Death: Mar. 7, 1863

CSA, Co. P, 1st TX
Mancel was part of Company I (Crockett Southerns), 1st Regiment of the TX Infantry in the Civil War. He was recruited at Milam, TX on April 10, 1862. Mancel was one of the 40 who survived the bloody Cornfield Battle at Sharpsburg in General Hood's 1st Texas Regiment. There were 220 who went into that battle from the 1st Texas Regiment. But Mancel ended up dying a few months later (March 7, 1863) of typhoid fever, and is buried at the Old City Cemetery in Lynchburg, Virginia. A special library there has the original, handwritten ledger with the details about Mancel.
