L. Jeanette "Babe" Bendure, 86 of Pittsburgh and formerly of Girard, died Saturday April 15, 2006 at UPMC Passavant Hospital in Pittsburgh. She was born November 30, 1919 in Girard a daughter of the late Burt and Margaret Cornwell Adams. Babe graduated from Girard's Rice Avenue Union High School in 1937 and later worked as a Telephone operator for the Girard Telephone Co. She enjoyed taking the time to raise and care for her family when they were young, deciding to go back to work when they had left the family home. She then worked for Brookpark in Lake City until her retirement in 1985. During her retirement years she was self employed where she made and sold crafts during many events in the local area including Dan Rice Day's in Girard. She was a member of the Girard United Methodist Church, also the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #22 and was a well known seamstress. She also enjoyed collecting many Beanie Baby's. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth J. Bendure in 1973 and whom she married May 29, 1942 in Girard also by a son James "Jimmy" Bendure in 1955; a sister Maxine Petitt, a brother Bill Adams and a grandaughter Sharra Ouellette. She is survived by two daughters Sally Ouellette of Oklahoma City, Okla., Peggie Wilkins and her husband Don of Pittsburgh; two sons John F. Bendure and his wife Margie of Spring, Texas., Thomas "Mike" Bendure and his wife Denise of Lake City; twelve grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews including Kathy McConnell and Pat Holland.
