Noah Tomasi, Long Prominent Here, Dies At Larkspur

Death ended the life of Noah Tomasi, a former prominent Petaluma citizen, who died last midnight at Larkspur where he had been making his home for the past two years. He had been in failing health during recent years and disposed of his home here and removed to Larkspur in hope the change might prove beneficial. Born in Maggia, Switzerland, July 17, 1858, he spent his younger life in his native land. On June 24, 1874, he came to California by way of New York.
On November 24, 1886 in Bolinas, he claimed the former Julia C. McGovern, a member of a pioneer Marin county family, as a bride. She passed away on March 10, 1937, in this city. The couple were the parents of three children: Elvin Tomasi, who for years was with the Bank of America, Sonoma County Branch, in this city, now manager of a bank in Walnut Creek; Irene Tomasi, who resided with her father in Larkspur; and Mrs. Andrew Gilardi of Larkspur.
Tomasi had followed dairying most of his life, retiring and purchasing a home in this city. He was one of the original group who started the Petaluma Co-Operative Creamery and was a director of the Bank of America, Sonoma County Branch, in this city. He was a member off Harmony Grove, U.A.O.D.
The grandchildren include: Howard Tomasi, of Seattle; Harry Tomasi, of Petaluma; Mildred McCray, of Olema; Stephen, Andrew Jr., and Lloyd Gilardi, and Phyllis Goode of Larkspur. The great-grandchildren are: Richard Stephen Gilardi; Marjorie and Miachael Goode, Larkspur; Judith Ann McCray, Olema; Roger Tomasi, Petaluma; Andrea Tomasi, San Francisco. He was an uncle of Mrs. Virginia Respini and Mrs. Edie Witham, Petaluma; Americo and Alphonso Tomasi and Mrs. Linda Jobe, Santa Rosa.
The body had been removed to the chapel of Blackburn & Sorensen, 400 Washington street.

His full name was Giacomo Bonfiglio and he went by Noah or Noe. Noah came over from Switzerland with his brother Maurice Tomasi. They came to California on June 24, 1874 by way of New York. He married Julia on November 24, 1886 in Bolinas on Thanksgiving Day. On the marriage license Noah has his last name as Tommasi.

Interesting fact, Flaminia Respini is buried to the right of the Tomasi plot in the Dado plot. She is the sister of Attilio Respini who married Virginia Tomasi.
