Mr. Black was an American photographer in the early days of photography. He was the first person to make an Aerial photo in the United States (two years after the same was first done in France) from a hot air balloon over Boston in 1860. Because of his Aerial photos taken that day, the US almost immediately put Aerial photography to use during the Civil War.
Black was also the inventor the "Magic Lantern" which was a candle powered projector, a precursor to modern slide projectors.
Black married Frances Georgianna Sharp on June 9th, 1859. They had two surviving children, Olive P. Black (born 1861) and Otis Fisher Black (born 1867).
