Paul is the son of Philip Henry Barnhart and Mary Ellen Lawler Barnhart. He married Etha Mae Shipley on March 21, 1922 in Tina, Missouri. They had one child, Margie Eileen Barnhart Banks.

Wagoner, Battery C, 57th Coast Artillery Corps. Entered at Jefferson Barracks, Mo., Nov. 18, 1917; transferred to Fort Hancock, N. J., Dec. 13, 1917; sailed May 10, 1918. Fought at St. Mihiel Offensive Sept. 4-14, 1918; Meuse-Argonne Offensive Sept. 14-Nov. 11, 1918; battery positions at Lymeaux, Monceyville, Romagne, Beufort, Avocourt, Cuisay, Montfaucon, Epinville. Returned to U. S. Jan. 14, 1919. Discharged at Camp Grant, Ill., Feb. 1, 1919. Gassed in the Battle of the Argonne Forrest.

Paul Barnhart was a farm worker and served as a Rural Letter Carrier for 30 years before retiring in 1957.
