Martin Hynes was a Police Officer in Kansas City, Missouri. He served 10 years for the Police Force, dying in the line of duty at age 39. Officer Hynes was serving an arrest warrant on a man for beating his wife. Officer Hynes went to the White House Saloon on 10th Street where the suspect was known to frequent. Officer Hynes allowed the suspect to retrieve his coat and hat. When the suspect returned, he pulled a gun and shot and killed Officer Hynes. Before Officer Hynes collapsed, he shot and seriously wounded the suspect. The suspect was charged, his trial was on January 23rd, 1883, where he was acquitted.
