US Marine Cpl Andrew Jackson Newcombe, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Lexington, NC.

US Marine Marine Corporal Andrew Jackson Newcombe was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Marine Corps, CPL Newcombe served our country until February 14th, 1971 in Quang Nam, South Vietnam. He was 19 years old and was not married. It was reported that Andrew died from illness or disease. His body was recovered. Andrew was born on August 2nd, 1951 in Lexington, North Carolina. CPL Newcombe is on panel 05W, line 103 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for 2 years.

I was in his unit when he died. He was a good guy, a great Marine (recon, jump wings), he was the best Marine in the unit. I was on a listening post the night he died and did not find out about it until the next day. I will always wonder. He has not been forgotten. A Fellow Marine.

He served with Supply Company, Headquarters Battalion, 1st Force Service Regiment, Forces Logistics Command, 3rd Marine Amphibious Forces.

He was awarded The Combat Action Ribbon(CAR), The Marine Jump Wings Badge, The Recon Qualifying Patch, The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal.
