Lost Fight with Death
Apoplexy, Following Amputation of Both Legs, Calls Mrs. John Berger to Long Home
- After bravely enduring the amputation of both legs, deemed necessary to save her life, Mrs. Cecilia Berger, wife of John A. Berger, of 979 N. Cleveland Ave., passed away at Aultman hospital Saturday afternoon. The immediate cause of death was a severe stroke of apoplexy, suffered about 9 o'clock Saturday morning which affected her left side. For about three years Mrs. Berger suffered from diabetes which finally developed into diabetes gangrene. On July 16 her left leg was amputated and on last Thursday, after a consultation of physicians, the right leg was removed.
Mrs. Berger was born in Bethel PA and was 59 years old on June 7 last. On May 25, 1869, she was married to Mr. Berger, and ten years later they removed to this city. During her 28 years of residence in Canton Mrs. Berger made many friends by her kindly disposition. She was a member of Trinity Reformed Church. Besides her husband she is survived by four children, Calvin M. Berger of Chicago; Mrs. D.W. Lerch, Mrs. John E. Sharp and W.D. Berger, of this city.
Funeral services will be held at the family home at 979 N. Cleveland Avenue Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, Rev. E.P. Herbruck will officiate. He will be assisted by Rev. O.C. Milligan of the First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery.
