Scott was born to Marvin LaVern Waite and Gwendolyn Ruth Brown Waite. He grew up in Logandale, graduating from Moapa Valley High School as class salutatorian. He served his LDS mission in Japan and graduated from Brigham Young University and Mississippi College School of Law. He married Susan Renae McKee on August 18, 1989. After graduating from law school, he moved his family back to Southern Nevada to pursue a career in law. He served as a deputy district attorney for Lincoln County, Nevada. For the last 11 years, he was employed as a deputy public defender for Clark County. He died as a result of injuries sustained from a fall from a ladder while he was trimming trees in his front yard. Survivors include his wife, Susan of Logandale; children, Jessica Renae, Scott Haydn Jr., Jeremy Marvin, Amy Lillian, Nathan Thomas and Whitney Ann, all of Logandale; siblings, Teresa Nielsen of Scottsdale, Arizona, D. Lanny Waite of Logandale, Diane Bushman of Springfield, Missouri; Mike Waite of Hazelton, Idaho, Greg Waite of Mesa, Arizona, and Becky Higbee of Alamo, Nevada.
