1. Joseph was a member of the 126th Regiment, PA Volunteers. From Civil War records on Valley of the Shadow: Shearer Joseph B. Pvt. H 126th Pa. Chambersburg 08-09-62 . Age at enlistment 18. Died of Disease: Typhoid fever, hosp. in camp near Falmouth Va. 12-28-62. Burial Place:Presbyterian Cem., Spring Run Fannett Twp., A-grave 265.
2. "Mercersburg Journal" Issue of 16 Jan 1863: Page 2, Col 3. Camp near Falmouth, Virginia, died on the 26th ult. J. Brown Shearer, of the vicinity of Spring Run, this county. (Franklin).

Joseph Brown Shearer, born 12 Jun 1844, Franklin Co, PA, son of Amos Alonzo Shearer and Mary Maria Brown. He is probably the Joseph B. Shearer who enlisted in Co. H, 126th PA Infantry, mother 'Mary M. Sheaer' as next of kin.
