RONALD R. JAMES, 71, died Sept. 30, 1996, at a local hospital. He retired from the Army after 30 years of service as a communications chief.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Ave. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Swan-Law Cascade Chapel.
Mr. James was born Dec. 18, 1924, in Portland, Ore., to William and Mary (Wiley) James.
He was married April 12, 1975, in Colorado Springs to Treva M. (Rudd) Kurtz, who lives in Colorado Springs.
He also is survived by three sons, Larry Diggs and Ron James, both of Portland, Ore., and Dan James of Lax, Calif.; two daughters, Virginia James and Kathleen Juhala, both of Colorado Springs; three stepchildren, Catherine Rudd of North Platte, Neb., Arthur Edward Rudd of Colorado Springs and Debra Penny of Maple City, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred (Hawkins) Diggs.
Mr. James served in the Army for 30 years, attaining the rank of master sergeant. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4051. He enjoyed woodworking and painting.
He had lived in Colorado Springs since 1971, previously living in Portland, Ore.
