Robert Van Bowers, age 95, passed away April 14, 2010, in Hurricane, Utah. He was born September 26, 1914, in Sundance, Wyoming, to Van Buren and Hilda Bowers.

Robert was raised in Hill City, South Dakota, he loved the Black Hills area.

He graduated from Hill City High School and ran a feed store in Hill City. Robert served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII in the Pacific and the States.

He married Helen Monserud in 1941, their family was blessed with five children.

After WWII they lived in St. Ignatius, Montana. They divorced and he moved to Salt Lake City.

He married Lucy Hansen in 1961, they moved to St. George in 1968, and worked at the Wittwer Travel Inn for many years.

After Lucy passed away in 2000, he married Maude DeMille in 2001, and had happy years together.

Robert was a member of the LDS Church. He enjoyed genealogy research and serving in his ward until his health declined.

Surviving family include his wife, Maude Bowers; his children, Kirk (Linda) Bowers, Ronald (Lorraine) Bowers, Delbert Bowers, and Naomi Bowers; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; Maude's children, Wallace Lynn (Mary) DeMille, Glenn (Neva) DeMille, Nerene Potter, Lloyd C. (Hester) DeMille, J. Stanley (Sally) DeMille; 25 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; ex-wife, Helen Bowers; wife, Lucy Bowers; daughter, Sylvia Ebaugh; siblings and their spouses, Edward Bowers, Alice (Lawrence) Duster, Vivian (William) Fairbank.

Robert will be greatly missed. He was a quiet gentle man who loved learning, gardening, and working with his hands. He loved living in beautiful St. George.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 17, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the Middleton Ward Chapel, 807 W. Capilla Rd., Washington. There will be a viewing held prior to services from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel. Interment will take place on Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. at the Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 S. Redwood Rd., Salt Lake City.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Robert Van Bowers to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Perpetual Education Fund.

Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, St. George, UT, (435) 673-2454. Friends and family are invited to sign the guest book at .
