Graveside services will be conducted today (Friday) at 11 a.m. at Mary Love cemetery with the Rev. Russell Edward officiating.
Born Sept. 6, 1916, in Richland County, S.C., Mr. Bankhead was a son of the late J.L. and Ada Bankhead. He attended Marshill College and graduated from Davidson College, where he played basketball. He retired from Seaboard Railroad with 39 years of service. He also coached American Legion Baseball Hamlet Post 49.
Mr. Bankhead was preceded in death by his wife, Annabelle Belotta Bankhead, on April 3 of this year, son, Olin Lee "Oakie" Bankhead Jr., and a grandson, Christopher Shawn Bankhead.
Surviving are two sons, David Bankhead of Rockingham and Sam Bankhead of Seven Lakes; sister, Marion Galloway of Charlotte; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Victory Baptist Church, 171 Clemmer Road, Rockingham, NC 28379.
