He changed his name after coming to America-in Finland his name was Johan Viktor Osterholm. He came to the US in 1899.As per Ab Holm a son: John Victor Holm came the United States via Ellis Island. He next went to Diluth, Minnesota. From Diluth he went to Butte Montana and from there he worked his way to Milford, Utah. He worked in the big copper mine in Butte. John V. Holm met his wife to be, Lucy Elizabeth Bozarth at the Montgomery Mine located about 7 miles northwest of Milford, Utah. Lucy worked in the boarding house and John worked the mine. She was impressed with him as she would see him carrying two other miners, one on each shoulder, down the hill. She would tell her aunt she thought it was silly, but her aunt told her to be careful as she would probably end up marrying him. One time a proffessional wrestler came to town doing exhibition matches with the local men. John Victor Holm and he were matched. Neither man could get the other off his feet and the match was a draw. The proffessional
wrestler's name was Ira Dern (Durn?). After that John and Ira became good friends and that is where one of John's sons (Frank Ira Holm) got his middle name.
