ABBEVILLE…..Jean Davis Richardson, a resident of McSwean Drive, Abbeville, died Sunday, May 27, 2012, at her home. She was 78.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 29, 2012, in the First Baptist Church of Abbeville with Reverend Teddy Ward and Reverend Ray S. Reiley officiating and a eulogy to be given by Sarah Williams. Graveside services will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Michael Whitt officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. Tuesday in the First Baptist Church Family Life Building.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Abbeville, P.O. Box 606, Abbeville, AL. 36310 or to the Old Abbeville City Cemetery Fund, c/o Lucky Armstrong, 907 Columbia Road, Abbeville, AL. 36310.
Mrs. Richardson was born and reared in Haleburg, daughter of the late Samuel Rudolph Davis and Vola Lee Stephenson Davis. She was a graduate of Headland High School. Mrs. Richardson lived in Abbeville most of her adult lifetime.
Mrs. Richardson was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Abbeville and participated in most church activities. She was a member of the Abbeville Garden Club, the Abbeville Chamber of Commerce, served on the Yatta Abba and Old Abbeville City Cemetery committees and was active in the Friends of the Library. Mrs. Richardson was selected as the 2011 Abbeville Kiwanis Club Citizen of the Year and was known as the "Caregiver" of the community. She was retired as the owner and operator of Richardson's Cleaners in Abbeville, a dry cleaning and laundry business which she and her late husband owned and operated forty-eight years. Mrs. Richardson was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Clay Richardson, a sister, Gwendolyn Davis Elliott and a grandson, Matt Yarbrough.
Surviving relatives include four sons, Hal Richardson and wife, Marti, Montgomery; Sam Richardson and wife, Laurie, Abbeville; Jim Richardson and wife, Pam, Headland; Darrin Richardson and wife, Joni, Thompson Station, TN; eight grandchildren, Meredith Richardson, Clay Richardson, Adam Richardson, Garrett Richardson, Zac Yarbrough and wife, Megan, Tyler Richardson, Austin Richardson and Samantha Richardson; a great-grandchild, Reagan Yarbrough; a niece, Penny Fowler and husband, Bart, Athens, AL.; a great-niece, Kristin Fowler; two great-nephews, Jacob Fowler and Seth Fowler and her special canine friend, "Frances".
Serving as active pallbearers will be the grandsons.
