David was the youngest son of Johannes "John" Agerter and Rosina Stoller Agerter. Born in Mannried (near Zweisimmen), his siblings were John, Jacob, Frederick and Rose (Rosina Katherina.) After the father's death in 1847, Rosina took her 5 children to Ohio. John became the Mayor of Upper Sandusky, Ohio. Frederick was one of the founders of the Lima Locomotive Works in Lima, Ohio. Jacob married Elizabeth Ronk and Rosina Katherina married John Seider.
