Merle W. Beymer, age 85, a resident of Wadena, MN, died Monday, July 12, 1999.
A memorial service was held July 16 at the Wadena United Methodist Church with Reverend Cheryl Williams officiating. Burial was in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery. Military honors were provided by the Elmer Goche VFW Post 3922. Arrangements were with the Bielema Funeral Home in Wadena.
Merle was born October 26, 1913, to Ruben and Mable (Holland) Beymer in Little Falls, MN. He attended school in Little Falls and Minneapolis, MN. In 1942, he married Clover Odegaard, of which one daughter was born. He was very active in fraternal organizations: Wadena Masonic Lodge #156, Scottish Rite, Legion of Honor, Zurah Shrine, Job’s Daughters, Wadena Eastern Star #156 and Minneapolis Eastern Star, White Shrine. He spent two and one-half years in the National Guard and three and one-half years in the Army as an infantryman in World War II. He was very active in his church in Minneapolis where he resided for 17 years. He delivered Meals on Wheels for 25 years. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 171 and Elmer Goche VFW Post 3922. In 1981, he retired from the Ford Motor Company where he worked as a master electrician in the hydro electric plant in St. Paul, MN.
Survivors include his wife, Clover; a daughter, Renee of Minneapolis; two sisters, Dorothy Lundeen of Minneapolis and Evelyn Burgart of Florida and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lawrence and Howard and three sisters, Elsie, Mae and Lilly.
