Mr. Brauchle was born in West New York, New Jersey and a longtime resident of the Coast. He entered into the Army Air Corps in 1943 after having worked with Western Electric. He trained and served as a navigator at the Selman Field in Monroe, La., prior to serving with the 8th Air Force in WWII in the European Theater. He was then assigned to SAC in Tampa, Florida. In 1946, Mr. Brauchle re-entered the U.S. Air Force as a Master Sergeant prior to transferring to Training Command at Keesler A.F.B. in 1949. He was stationed at the Naval Air Station in San Diego, CA in 1954 and 1955. Then in 1960, he had an overseas tour with Tactical Command in Japan prior to returning to Keesler in 1963. He was designated as Outstanding Airman of the Year with the 41st Fighter Wing and Outstanding Airman of the Year of the 8th Armament and Engineering SQDN. Mr. Brauchle received the 1999 Knights of Columbus Mr. Biloxi Award.
Mr. Brauchle was a member of the 303 Bomb Group "Hells Angels". He was retired at Keesler in 1966. He was a member of the Retired N.C.O. Association at Keesler and was past president and a member of N.A.R.F.E. National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and former Chapter President, and also a member of A.A.R.P., Order of Alhambra Organization, and active in assisting with income tax-aid of seniors.
Mr. Brauchle was also a member of the following organizations: SHAND-Sacred Heart and Notre Dame Fund Raising Association, chairman of the Notre Dame bingo, member of the Notre Dame Booster Club past president of the Nativity School Board, Nativity B.V.M. Cathedral, serving as a Eucharastic Minister, Order of St. Vincent DePaul Society, Holy Name Society 3rd and 4th degree Knight of Columbus, having served as Past Faithful Navigator, Past MS State Marshal, was commander of the Honor Guard. He was also active in the Gulf Coast Stamp Club. Mr. Brauchle was on the Advisory Board for the Keesler Federal Credit Union.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be made to Nativity Elementary School or Nativity St. Vincent DePaul Society in Biloxi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Martina Brauchle; and a brother, Rudolph Brauchle.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Brauchle of Biloxi; two daughters, Lynn Marslender (Bob) of Mobile, Al and Tina Martenstein (Brackett) of Mobile, Al; three sons, Paul E. Brauchle (Marguerite) of Normal, Il., Stephen K. Brauchle (Lari) of Biloxi, Ms and John G. Brauchle, Jr. (Abby) of Biloxi, Ms; 12 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
