HUTCHINSON —

William Adkins, 79, died June 10, 2013 at Hospice House, Hutchinson.

He was born September 11, 1933, in Siloam Springs, Ark to Milard Oscar "Buck" and Mary Edith (Smith) Adkins.

William served as Private First Class in the United States Army from 1957-1962.

He taught marriage and family and history and coached football and track and field in the military in Germany, then at College High at Pittsburg, Elk City, Goodland, Hutchinson Community College and Buhler High School.

On February 14, 1959, he married Greta Meyer in Independence, Kansas. She died September 17, 2009.

Survivors include: son, William H. Adkins and wife Courtney of Buhler; two sisters, Wendy Pankratz of Hutchinson and Gretchen Jabben of Olathe, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Jack, Abbie, John, Natalie, Jess, Blythe and Sloane.

William was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Greta Adkins, four brothers and four sisters.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 14, 2013 at Stringer Fine Arts Center with Chaplain Bob Phipps officiating. Military honors will be provided by Fort Riley Honor Guard.

Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 17, 2013 at Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence, Kansas. Friends may sign the book from 9-9 Wednesday and Thursday with the family to receive friends from 6-8 Thursday at Elliott Mortuary. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Reno County, HCC Endowment Association, or Buhler High School Fellowship of Christian Athletes in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
