William P. Myers Obituary from the Anacortes American, Anacortes, WA
William P. "Bill" Myers
William P. "Blll" Myers, 93, of Anacortes died Sunday, November 17, 2002, at San Juan Care Center in Anacortes.
He was born February 23, 1909, in Bond, Illinois. Bill worked and boarded on a farm as a teenager to be able to go to school to the eighth grade.
He left the farm and decided to travel around by hitching rides on railroad boxcars. In the late 1930's, he had an opportunity to go to a welding school, which started his career as a welder in construction jobs at shipyards, refineries, mill construction in Alaska and the Hanford site in Richard, WA.
Bill met Opal (Lawler) in 1955 when she had a restaurant at Sixth Street and Commerical Aveune in Anacortes. They married on March 31, 1956. Bill was working on construction of the refineries at the time.
After the refinery job, they moved to Sitka, Alaska, on a pulp mill construction job that kept them there for five years. They then moved to Kennewick and Bill worked at the Hanford project until he retired in 1975.
After retiring, they spent the winters in Arizona and divided their time in the summer between their home in Anacortes and their campsite at Packwood, near the Cowlitz River.
Bill joined the Masons in Asotin and was given a 50-year member award this year as well as a lifetime membership in the Shrine Scottish Rite.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Opal, on May 29, 2002; and his stepdaughter and son-in-law, Vier and Katherine Kimbrel.
He is survived by his brother, Charles; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren as well as many friends and neighbors who will miss him and his friendly smile.
A memorial service is 1 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 21, at Evans Funeral Chapel of Anacortes.
Arrangements are under the care of Evans Funeral Chapel.
