WESTMORELAND --- Clarence "Chig" A. Barr, 87, Westmoreland, died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at a Westmoreland nursing home.
Mr. Barr was a farmhand for 25 years in the Westmoreland and Flush area. He also served 20 years as a newspaper boy at the Westy Community Care Home and he was past president of the Westy Residence Council. He served in the Army in World War II and participated in the Rhineland Campaign and the Normandy Invasion.
He was born Oct. 24, 1911, at Severy, the son of Henry F. and Esley Howe Barr. He graduated from Westmoreland High School.
Mr. Barr was a former member of the Pleasant Run Church, a member of Westmoreland United Methodist Church, Post No. 17 of the American Legion in Manhattan and the Eagle's Club in Manhattan.
Survivors include a brother, Orval Barr, Wamego.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Westmoreland United Methodist Church. Burial will full military honors conducted by a Fort Riley Color Guard will be at the Admantha Cemetery south of Westmoreland.
