Adam B Barnhart was born April 30, 1839 to John Barnhart and Susan Elenor Hepler Barnhart in Bradys Bend, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. Adam was one of eleven children, one of whom was Elisabeth, who married Charles McKinney, son of William and Betsey.
On August 4, 1859 Adam married Catherine Jane Shook in Pennsylvania. They lived in Bradys Bend, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania and had eight children.
In 1878 the couple's oldest daughter, Arabella "Belle" married Adam's sister Elisabeth Barnhart McKinney's son, William Barnhart McKinney in Pennsylvania. Of course this union of first cousins created quite a stir, and the couple along with both sets of parents completely migrated to the rural area called Iola Township, Allen County, Kansas.
By June 20, 1879 the young couple had their first child, Charles Henry McKinney in Iola. The family unit lived long and happy lives in the freedom of the Midwestern lifestyle, and from what I heard never missed the rigid ways of the Pennsylvania group they left behind.
