Lawrence B. Sivek,
of Austin, passed away Thursday, July 29, 1999, at the age of 68, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Plum, Texas on July 30, 1930, to the late Frank and Annie Sivek. He left the farm at the age of 17 to join the Army and served in Occupied Germany and in the Korean War. In Korea, Lawrence was wounded while driving a truck (what else?) that was hauling ammunition to the front lines. He was awarded several medals for bravery and sharpshooting.
In 1952, Lawrence married JoAnn Smith. Together they established the Sivek Truck Leasing Co. Lawrence, fondly known as "Boss Man" was a hardworking, dedicated and honest husband, father and papa. He was held in high esteem by his many peers in the trucking industry and confirmed many contracts with only a handshake. He will be sorely missed by his employees. We want to thank J.W. Loan for 16 years and Jacob Lindgren for 12 yrs. of dedicated services.
The family would like to thank Dr. Hadlock, Dr. Nataji and nurses in Oncology, especially, Emer and Marlene in the Infusion Room. Also, Dr. Brown and nurses in Radiation. A very special thanks to Jayme Torres for her kindness and compassion.
Special thanks also goes out to Lawrence and JoAnn's wonderful neighbors on or around Oak Trail who have given food, cards, and support, throughout this difficult time. We greatly appreciate each and every one of you.
Lawrence is survived by his wife of 46 years, JoAnn; son, Rusty Sivek and wife, Cynthia; daughter Carrie Lemke and husband, Mark; daughter, Jennifer Evans and husband, Jim; four grandchildren, Tiffany Keszler, Adam and Abby Lemke, and Cody Lawrence Sivek, all of Pflugerville; five sisters, Bessie Chapman of Baytown; Vlasta Sokol of Houston; Bernice Brooks and husband, Robert of Houston; Annie Copeland and husband, Bill of Lubbock; and Toni Harris of Dallas; one very close nephew, Terry Struve, his wife, Charlene and their son, Mitch; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Frank Sivek of Lancaster, and one sister, Martha Struve of La Grange.
Pallbearers are Glen Engelke, Frank Hrachovy, Jacob Lindgren, J.W. Loan, Ray Markert and Randy Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Don Campbell, A.L. (Buck) Nash and Wes Riggs.
