Mary Louvinia Ashmore Agee Bryan
Birth: Aug. 22, 1859
Sulphur Springs
Hopkins County
Texas, USA
Death: Aug. 21, 1955
Wilson County
Texas, USA

Lou Bryan was born to John Elbert and Margaret E. Ashmore Agee, and her only sibling was Melissa Belle Agee. Both the Agees and Ashmores were pioneer families of Hopkins Co., Texas.

When her father died in the War Between the States, Lou's mother moved her small family in with her brother, Robert Ashmore, and his family, in Williamson Co., Texas. After her mother and her uncle passed away, Lou went to live with her father's brother, William Coe Agee, an early-day drug store operater in Floresville, Wilson Co., Texas. She became a charter member of the Floresville Methodist Church, founded in 1879.

She married John H. Bryan on December 18, 1879, in Floresville, and they had the following children: Hugh, Uhlan Agee, Edna Maud, Baylor Belger, and Mae Bryan. John passed away November 11, 1891. Lou never remarried and continued raising her children, surviving by taking in washing and sewing. Her sons also did what they could to earn money. After her children become grown and left home, Lou lived with her daughter, Mae, and her family in Stockdale, Wilson Co., Texas, until her death.

After her death, her body lay in state at the Salmon-Meyers Funeral Home until August 23, 1955, when religious services were conducted by Rev. Charles F. Rowes, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Stockdale, assisted by Rev. Marshall Smith of Kerrville, Texas. A brief graveside service was also held at Floresville Cemetery.

Her obituarty in the Floresville paper stated that "many long-time friends of this beloved pioneer lady, who was among the earliest settlers of Floresville and Wilson County, came to pay a final tribute of respect to one they had known and loved for years. Her consecrated Christian life and many beautiful traits of character were reviewed by the two officiating ministers. Many beautiful flowers were at the church from dear friends and neighbors."
