George A. H. Baker
Birth: Jul. 1, 1837
Morgan County
Indiana, USA
Death: Oct. 15, 1916
Linn County
Missouri, USA

Someone has listed his middle name as Hoover, but we do not have the source for it, at this time.

His middle initial was seen as A. in early documents from his lifetime, such as his marriage record. His death record does not list a middle initial. His tombstone lists the H. as his middle initial. In order to incorporate both initials that he was seen with during his life he is listed as George A H Baker.

George was the son of Martha (Baker) and George Baker (b. 1806.) He was born on 1 July 1837, at Morgantown, Morgan Co., IN. By the 1850 Census, his mother and siblings that are still at home are living at Linn County, Missouri, his father had already passed away by this time.

George was married 1st to Mrs. Isabel (McCollum) Baker (widow of Wiley Baker), on 1 Jan 1857. He became the step-father of Stephen Baker at that time.

He and Isabella became the parents of William Jefferson Baker, Sarah Alice Baker, George M. Baker, Nancy M. Baker, Rufus Baker, Daniel R. Baker, and Martha Frances Baker.

George became a widower on 31 Mar 1895.

He married 2nd, Mrs. Ella B. Nash, nee Barbara Ella Miller, on 23 Aug 1896 in Linn Co., MO, (widower of Edmund P. Nash.)

George became step-father to Cornelia Leora, Priscilla, Harrison E., and Phoebe Nash.

Ella and George Baker became the parents of Lelia and Rose Ella Baker. Not known if there were more children.

Ella filed for George's Civil War Pension. His name on this document is George Baker (no middle initial or name) and he is listed as having served in two capacities. The document is hard to read but it indicated he served in the MO Engineers, and the Infantry. Trying to look further into this, there is a George Baker no middle initial, serving in the 1st Regiment Missouri Engineers. Needs further research.

George passed away on the 15th of October 1916. His home at the time of his death was at 428 S. Livingston, Brookfield, Linn Co., MO. He was 79 years, 3 months, and 14 days of age. He was buried at Rose Hill Cemetery, on 17 October 1916. Information from his death certificate.

Gone but not forgotten.
