Esther Ford (Gable) Reasoner-Brookhart was the first-born child and only daughter of Anna Elizabeth (Ford) and Albert Hancock Gable of Hartford City, Indiana. She was educated in the local schools and attended Muncie Normal School, now Ball State University. She taught school for one year in Blackford County.
She first married John Lloyd Reasoner in Hartford City on December 31, 1926; he died after 35 years of marriage on October 21, 1961. She second married Gerald Brookhart in 1969 in Muncie, Indiana; he died in April 1997 after 28 years of marriage.
Esther was the former owner of the Blackford County Airport Restaurant in Hartford City. She continued her restaurant profession as the owner of the Upland Cafe in Upland, Indiana and of the Dog House Restaurant in Hartford City. When she married Gerald Brookhart, the couple moved to Ohio until his death in 1997, at which time she moved to North Carolina to live with her daughter, Barbara (Reasoner) Pemberton and family.
Esther was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hartford City.
Her survivors included: two daughters, Barbara (Mrs. Raymond) Pemberton and Jeannine (Mrs. Gordon) Stinson; a son John L. (Barbara) Reasoner, Jr.; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 3 gr-great-grandchildren; three step-children, 7 step-grandchildren and 1 step-greatgrandchild. She was preceded in death by her two younger brothers: Edward Albert and William Richard Gable.
Esther was a gr-granddaughter of Dr. James and America Ford of Wabash, Indiana.
