Death: Aug. 26, 1864
Andersonville

Son of Velona and Sabrina Powers Hotchkiss. His inscription denotes that he "died a Christian Patriot at Andersonville". He was a Civil War Union Army soldier taken prisoner by the Confederate Army and committed to their notorious POW camp at Andersonville, where around 20% of the prisoners died owing to the cruel and spartan conditions. Albert Hotchkiss was 18 years old when he died. His body was recovered from Andersonville Prison after the war and interred in the family plot at Mount Hope.

Inscription:
[front] Born at Rochester, N.Y.; Died a Christian Patriot at Andersonville, Ga.; [side] A Life With Jesus; [back] I know I am in the way of duty. I die in a glorious cause. Albert
