Bettie R. McDowell went to be with her Lord on August 4, 2007. She was born January 4, 1942 to Gene and Leaha Barry in Colorado Springs, CO. She was the first born of 7 children. One of Bettie's fondest childhood memories was her time spent in Welton, AZ. There she enjoyed being a cheerleader and being one of the most popular kids at school. Her family moved to Phoenix her sophomore year where she attended Carl Hayden High. Bettie met the love of her life in May of 1963 and after two short months, they married. They had two beautiful sons. Bettie was a homemaker. Her most important profession was being a mom. She also baby sat many children. She loved them and was the best at what she did. She is preceded in death by her husband Gerald K. McDowell. She is survived by her two sons Gerald II and Michael; daughters-in-law Virginia Polifko, Tracy McDowell and Melissa McDowell; grandchildren Gerald III, Kesley and Ryan; mother Leaha Hodges; sisters Lana, Pauline and Elise; brothers Gene, Roger and Steve; many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. With a special thanks to Sandra McDowell-Peters and Aunt Trudie McDowell for their special gift of friendship. Bettie's legacy to us is to love one another. Do for others without hesitation and appreciate all the simple things in life. Bettie, you deeply touched each of our lives and you will be truly missed. Services will be held at Best Funeral Home 501 E. Dunlap Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85020 at 3 PM Tuesday August 7, 2007.
Cremated, Ashes given to family or friend.
