Former Juneau resident James Moor, 82, died Oct. 18, 2005, at his home in Mountain Grove, MO, after his eight-year battle with colon cancer. He was born on Jan. 28, 1923, in Palacios, Texas, to the late James Minard and Julia (Zapala) Moor.

As a young man, he worked as a coal miner in Ohio. Later, he became a welder and was one of 35 men certified in Heliarc stainless steel welding.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and re-enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in the 509th Division.

He married Patricia Madden on Nov. 5, 1946, in Roswell, NM. They had three children together.

He continued to be a welder, commercial fisherman and an electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in Alaska. He was a welding instructor for the University of Alaska Southeast until his retirement in 1987.

For the past six years, he and his wife have made their home in the Mountain Grove area.

He enjoyed the outdoors. His hobbies were fishing, collecting fishing gear, bowling, playing poker in Las Vegas and wood-working projects.

Family members said, "He was a loving and kind husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He will definitely be missed by his family and friends."

He is survived by his wife of 59 years; one son, James Moor II and his wife, Beverly, of San Diego, CA; two daughters, Vivian Lewis and her husband, Mike, of Cabool, MO; Linda Joyce West of Renton, WA; five sisters, Virginia "Peggy" Moor, Jackie Roberts and Jean Steffen, all of Wellsville, Ohio; Janet Yost of Reedsport, OR; and Joan Garcia of Las Vegas, NV; two grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Memorial services were held Oct. 22 in Mountain Grove with the Rev. Belva Terrant officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt-Bradley Funeral Home.

Thank you for serving in the U.S. Army Air Forces. All gave some, and some gave all; our freedom hasn't come free.
