Arriving in Vietnam 6 August 1967, Carl was assigned to A Battery, 3rd Battalion, 319th Artillery, 173rd Airborne Brigade, USARV. Carl was with A Battery that located at a fire support base, when he died as a result of a gunshot wound from a hostile sniper rifle fire on the base.
Survived by his parents, Arnold Edward and Verlie Irene Barnhart and his brother and sister; David and Debra Barnhart all of Box 84, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.
