Jan. 31, 1863 executive officer of USS Mercedita when it was damaged and captured off Charleston, S. C. by ironclad ram CSS Palmetto State; served aboard sloop USS Constellation; 1864 assigned command of gunboat USS Kennebec; Dec. 12, 1867 commander
