Sgt. John Sharp McKibben, son of John Sharp McKibben, Sr., and Anna Mary Posey, was killed in action at Grand Prairie, Arkansas, shortly before he was to be mustered out of the service. He served with the 6th Regiment of the Kansas Volunteers. He was the husband of Elizabeth Cunningham and the father of nine children, all of whom were minors at the time of his death.
