RESOLUTION NO. 478

On the death of David F. Peters.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 10, 2000

Agreed to by the Senate, March 10, 2000

WHEREAS, David F. Peters, a prominent Richmond attorney and civic leader, died on March 3,

WHEREAS, a native of Hagerstown, Maryland, David Peters was a graduate of Washington and Lee University and the Duke University Law School; and

WHEREAS, David Peters retired in 1999 from the Richmond law firm of Hunton and Williams, where he had practiced law for 33 years and from which he received the Hunton and Williams Pro Bono Award in 1999 for his work at the firm's Church Hill office; and

WHEREAS, David Peters was a member of the Richmond, Virginia State, and American Bar Associations; and

WHEREAS, David Peters was a former president of the Children's Home Society of Virginia, a trustee of Westminster-Canterbury Corporation, and president of Westminster Presbyterian Homes of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, a member of First Presbyterian Church in Richmond, David Peters served as an elder for many years and headed the building campaign for a church school addition in 1985; and

WHEREAS, David Peters leaves an enviable legacy of dedication to his family, his profession, his church, and his community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the passing of a fine Virginian, David F. Peters; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of David F. Peters as an expression of the high regard in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
