September 1670: birth as recorded in Norwich vital records. (1, 2)

Certain genealogies also indicate the birth date as 10 September 1670, verifiable source as yet unconfirmed but either from an unknown family genealogy or (as another contributor suggests) perhaps a result of mistaken application of the English conversion from the prior Julian to modern Gregorian calendar on January 1, 1752. The Julian calendar was an average of 11 days behind the Gregorian calendar at conversion and behind an average of 10 days in the prior century. A completely erroneous concept applied by many writers, genealogists and otherwise learned persons was that a date in the prior Julian calendar had to be adjusted by the average number of days the Julian calendar was behind. Thus Sept misinterpreted to be September 10.

As per "Gravesite Details" below, the stone's inscription was incorrectly transcribed in the 1930's "Charles R. Hale Collection of Cemetery Inscriptions" to read "Jeremiah Elliott." Thus mistaken memorials have constantly been added/deleted to/from this website under that surname and since 2005 now remains to prevent further additions and confusion. See Memorial ID 11492484 for clarification. It was again incorrectly transcribed in 1941 to read age 60 rather than 66.
