Allen E. Everhart, 76, of Stuart, Fla., formerly of Altoona, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 18, 2010.

He was born April 24, 1934, in Altoona, the son of the late Kenneth and Sarah (Yingling) Everhart Rudasill (Edward). Allen married Barbara Ann Harley on April 15, 1954, in Cumberland, Md.

He was a member of First Church of Christ, Juniata Gap, where he served as a deacon. Allen was a graduate of Altoona Area High School, Class of 1953.

He retired as a machinist from F.L. Smithe Co. in 1999 with 30 years of service. Prior to that, he was a brakeman with PRR for 10 years. Allen was a United States Navy veteran during the Korean War. Following his retirement, he and his wife moved to the Dela Bahia Community in Stuart, Fla. Allen was a member of the Dela Bahia Yacht Club and an active volunteer of the dock crew.

Allen is survived by his wife of 56 years; six children: Allen E. Jr. (Diana), Larry D. (Mary Ellen), Deborah A. Stayer (William), Kathy L. Seilhammer (Zane) and Tracey J. Laskey (Thomas) and a son, Jeffrey S., who died March 23, 2007; 14 grandchildren: Amy (Ryan), Ryan (Jamie), Daniel, Rachel (Richard), April, Michael (Amy), William II, Zane, Justin, Megan, Tricia (Timothy), Joseph, Ross and Dawson; 10 great-grandchildren: Emily, Lily, Nathan, Allison, Maren, Conner, Carson, William III, Jacob, Julien and two on the way; a sister, Janet Franks (William); sisters-in-law, Judy Walters and Gloria DeFeo (George); and a brother-in-law, Don "Sonny" Harley (Mabel).

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Monday, May 24, 2010, at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home Inc., 2309 Broad Ave., Altoona, Pa., and from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at First Church of Christ, Juniata Gap and Good Shepherd roads, Altoona, Pa. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at the church, officiated by Pastor John Collins.

A graveside committal service with military honors will follow at Carson Valley Cemetery.
