Richard Errick Lawrence was the son of Richard Taylor and Paula L. (Ray) Lawrence. He is survived by one brother, Brett Anthony Lawrence, and two sisters, Tori Gueth, and ReDawn Lawrence. He graduated, in 1978, from Northeastern High School. After high school, he attended Anderson College and Wright State University. He loved baseball and began playing when he was 7 years old in the Pre-Peanut league. He was on many All-Star teams throughout his baseball career, played AA baseball in Dayton for Busch, and he coached WBLY and several All-Star teams in the Babe Ruth League. He was also active in Pee-Wee Football and CYA football. He was a member of the Christ in Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church. In March, 1982, Errick joined the US Navy Reserves, and enlisted in the US Navy in September of that year. He received the Naval Unit Commendation with two bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the Navy E Ribbon, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He was one of 47 sailors killed when 550 pounds of gunpowder exploded inside the No. 2, 16-inch gun turret on the battleship USS Iowa off Puerto Rico.
