Clifford Ernest Childs b. Feb. 26, 1890 at Logan, Iowa was the sixth of seven children (Ira, Isaac Elijah, Luella, Joseph R., Guy Truman, Clifford Ernest, Florence) born to Joseph Childs and Blanche Clementine Peckenpaugh. In 1898 when he was eight years old, the family moved from Logan, Harrison County, Iowa to a homestead in Fedora, Miner County, South Dakota. There he attended rural schools, after which he spent some time at various jobs in western South Dakota and eastern Wyoming and Butte, Montana. He later returned to South Dakota and attended Madison, South Dakota Normal School where he was on the football and basketball teams.

In Mitchell, SD on Dec. 26, 1912 he married Ida Teresa Kuemmerle, born Mar. 7, 1885 in Sanborn Co. SD. Ida was the daughter of Fred Kuemmerle and Clara Zietchel. They first lived in Pettibone, Kidder County, North Dakota twelve miles from Woodworth, ND where his older married brother, Guy Truman Childs and wife May Barbara (Steiber) Childs first lived after their marriage. By June 1915 , three years later, both brothers left North Dakota. Clifford and Ida went west to homestead at Hay Creek, Weston County, Wyoming, south of Upton, Wyoming, while brother Guy Childs moved northeast to Minnesota where he worked in Iron Ore mining. Clifford and Ida raised their children on the Childs' ranch until they retired in 1963 and moved to Osage. That same year his older brother, Guy, died in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
Clifford's profession: Rancher, in Weston County, eastern Wyoming.

The four children of Clifford Ernest Childs and Ida Kuemmerle:

1. Joseph "Joe" Childs b. Dec. 1916 in Upton, WY married Faye Vincent on September 21, 1940 in Bolivar, Missouri. Profession: Rancher

2. Audrey Childs b. Mar. 27, 1918 in Upton, WY married Burt W. Myers (Profession: Druggist) on Nov. 10, 1934 of Florence, AZ . no children

3. Esley Clara Childs b. Aug. 3, 1921 Upton, WY d. Jan.1, 2015 married Milton J. Holwell, WWII Veteran, both are buried in the Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD.

4. Carlos Lyndon Childs. b. 1930 Upton, WY. married Lydia Rheinhart . Four children: Louis Childs of Casa Grande, AZ., Linda Childs of Carrollton, Texas, Laura Childs and Dick Stull of Gillette, WY, Larry Childs of Trinidad, CO.

Clifford was a life long member of the Methodist Church . He was a 4-H leader for several years.
He leaves to mourn his passing: daughters, Audrey (Bert) Myers, Florence, AZ; Esley Clara (Milton) Holwell of Osage, WY, two sons, Joseph Childs of Osage and Lyndon Childs of Upton; a sister, Florence Gordon of Tacoma, WA and Isaac "Lidge" of Coolidge, AZ.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Ida, in 1966, his parents and two brothers, Joseph R., and Guy Truman Childs.
