SPANISH AMERICAN WAR VETERAN

Fred William Beck was born October 18, 1875. He was the son of Edward and Sophia (Harper) Beck. Various census records list Fred's birthplace as either United States, Germany or Alabama. His name was listed as Frederick on a 1930 census and his death record; however, most all documents list him as Fred. His signature on his World War I draft registration was as Fred and his gravestone also reads Fred.

MILITARY RECORD:
Enlisted April 26, 1898; assigned to Company G, 1st Regiment of Idaho Volunteers; and discharged April 27, 1899 with rank of Musician. A pension was awarded on Certificate No. 2,565,006.

He was married about 1901 to Mamie. The couple had no children. Mr. Beck worked as a boatbuilder at the Navy Yard, Puget Sound in 1917.

Mr. Beck, 84, died March 5, 1960 in Seattle, Washington while on furlough from the Washington Veterans' Home. His graveside service was conducted by the V.F.W. at the Veterans' Home Cemetery.
